Our journey began in rainy Bergen, and came home to Amsterdam.

In 2011, Daphne Gerritse, our founder and head designer lived in the rainy city of Bergen, Norway. She was surrounded by traditional fisherman's raincoats. While cycling to and from to work, the need struck her. “We ought to have something better, no matter the rain!

Something waterproof that protects you but also looks good! Something that blends style with functionality.” After being back to Amsterdam riding through the streets, her vision to solve a very real problem began to take shape. The blueprint for Raincouture was born.

The Path of Our Transformation

a simple yet bold idea: embrace the rain
In the rainy heart of Norway, Raincouture was born from a simple yet bold idea: embrace the rain, don’t fight it. It started with Rain ID, a vision sparked during daily bike commutes of our founder through misty streets and unexpected downpours. Inspired by the elements, the concept grew into something more—a fusion of style and resilience, designed to thrive in any weather.

    From Ideation to Innovation
After two years of perfecting every detail, the brand launched with a grand show in Amsterdam. Initially called PIOGG, inspired by the Italian word pioggia (meaning rain) and the effortless elegance of Milan. The founder’s mission was clear: “Turn grey, rainy streets into a catwalk.” The debut collection, crafted from Swiss deadstock and European trims. Later, the brand evolved into RainCouture, redefining outerwear for all weather. The rain was no longer something to endure—it was something to embrace.

A New Era: Unveiling Our New Corporate Identity
In 2024, we embarked on a transformative journey that reflects our brand's evolution and core values. This milestone signifies not just a change in appearance but a reaffirmation of our philosophy.

Imagined on the bike. For the ambitious on the move.

Raincouture is your sophisticated trans-seasonal capsule selection for being well-dressed, efficient and at your best, no matter the weather, through the many roles you play amidst a full schedule. Our makes are as resilient as your mindset. And as glowing as your personality.

Sunshine is a state of mind.

And that there is no such thing as being ‘over-dressed.’ One must have the flexibility to dress up comfortably, without the weather restricting this choice.

We're committed to continuous innovation, While honouring our core philosophy.

Twice a year, we introduce a few new carefully crafted products, keeping our beloved classics alive. For instance, this year, we relaunched a coat Daphne designed back in 2014-15.“It’s a piece my mother adored! I had given her a sample and she continued wearing it. Every time I saw her in it, I was reminded of its timeless appeal and knew it deserved a comeback.” — Daphne Gerritse

We focus on enhancing the sensory experience of our garments.

Each season, we infuse new colours and fabrics, elevating the quality even further. We meticulously scrutinise every aspect of our coats, seeking ways to perfect the fit, functionality, and feel of the fabrics. This continuous refinement process is evident in the exquisite stitching, the luxurious feel of the fabric that whispers quality rather than shouting 'rainwear', and the structured, body-embracing design.

We take pride in thoughtful design details

The inner linings, trims, collars, cords, pullers—every accessory you see on a Raincouture product—are not just additions but an integral part of our ‘design process’ that make the experience of wearing Raincouture so special.

Raincouture is about solving the practical challenges of daily life, with sophistication and style.
